About Department

The Department of Neurosurgery, Government Medical College Srinagar was started in 2012 under the guidance of Professor M.A Wani. The department is headed by Professor Syed ShafeeqAlam. The Department of Neurosurgery evolved through his extra ordinary efforts and has gained exponential growth. The approval was granted for starting the DNB courses in Neurosurgery by the National Board of Examination in Medical Science ( NBEMS) in 2020. Department of Neurosurgery GMC Srinagar runs emergency casualty ward and emergency operation theatre 24 X 7 at SMHS hospital Srinagar. The department has been equipped with ultra – modern technology and equipment’s from time to time i.e. Operating Microscope, CUSA, Ultrasound, Fully Automatic Electrical Drill, Radio Frequency Cautery, Nerve Monitoring etc.        The faculty members are actively engaged in research work and have published more than 50 papers in national and international journals. Almost all Neurosurgical procedures are done both open and microscopic i.e. Brain Tumors , Spinal Tumors, Cervical Tumors, Posterior Fossa Tumors, Cervical Dorsal lumbar fusions, Carpel Tunnel syndrome, shunt, DSA, etc and all emergency procedures.
