GMC Srinagar Leads the Way in Geriatric Orthopedic Excellence"
The 11th International Conference of the Geriatric Orthopaedic Society of India (GOSI) was a resounding success, bringing together over 250 delegates from Jammu and Kashmir and across India to address the orthopedic needs of the elderly. Hosted by the Department of Orthopaedics, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, from October 3-5, 2024, this ground breaking event featured an interdisciplinary approach to geriatric orthopedic care.
The conference was inaugurated by Secretary Health and Medical Education, J&K, Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah, in presence of Prof Dr.Iffat Hassan Shah Principal/Dean GMC Srinagar, Dr.Altaf Kawoosa HOD deptt.of orthopaedics and a galaxy of Experts from across the country. Dr Syed Abid Rashid Shah congratulated the Department of Orthopaedics on holding the conference and bringing together legends in the field, to deliberate on the orthopaedic problems in the elderly. He also stressed upon the inculcation of ethics among the young doctors.
Principal/Dean GMC Srinagar, Prof. Iffat Hasan Shah, President GOSI, Padmashri Dr John Ebnizar and National Secretary GOSI, Dr. SS Amarnath, shared their expertise on the occasion.
A total knee replacement workshop showcased the latest surgical techniques for improving mobility in senior patients was also held in the conference.
A special session highlighted breakthrough technologies in orthobiologicals for enhancing bone and tissue repair, was major attraction of the event.
one of the key features of the conference was Video lectures by internationally recognized doctors, Dr. Sergio (Brazil), Dr. Md Mazid (Egypt), and Dr. Rohit Rambiani (UK).
The conference saw the Participation from premier institutes like PGI Chandigarh, AIIMS New Delhi, and others.
The 3- day event attracted more than 250 delegates from all medical colleges of the Jammu and Kashmir and from across the country.
The conference concluded with a valedictory function, where organising secretaries Dr Asif Baba and senior Geriatrician Dr. Zubair Saleem, thanked the faculty and delegates. This event marked a significant step towards enhancing geriatric orthopedic care in India.
