Superspeciality Hospital Achieves Landmark Surgery in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery
In a groundbreaking achievement, the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) department at Superspeciality Hospital, a leading tertiary care center, successfully performed a rare and complex surgery on a 56-year-old female patient. This remarkable feat reinforces the hospital's reputation for clinical excellence and cutting-edge patient care.
The five-hour surgery involved removing a massive 3.5 kg tumor from the patient's abdomen, which had infiltrated critical blood vessels and organs, including the inferior vena cava, portal vein, and right kidney. Despite prior chemotherapy, the tumor showed no response, necessitating this high-risk surgery.
Led by Professor Mohammad Akbar Bhat, a team of highly specialized surgeons, anesthetists, and support staff collaborated to perform this intricate operation. The surgical team utilized advanced technologies and techniques to ensure a successful outcome, with active logistic support from Dr. Hina Bashir, Professor & Head Anaesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine, and her team.
The patient is currently recovering in the hospital and is expected to be discharged soon. This achievement showcases Superspeciality Hospital's commitment to advancing patient care and delivering life-saving treatments in the face of complex surgical challenges.
Dr. Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal and Dean GMC Srinagar, Mr. Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Administrator GMC and associated hospitals, and Dr. Rubina, Medical Superintendent SSH Shireen Bagh, congratulated the team of doctors involved in the operation for achieving this rare feat.
