500 Bedded Children Hospital Bemina, has been developed by the Govt. as an associated hospital of GMC Srinagar with a vision to make it one of the finest apex hospitals in paediatric care, that shall match national and international standards once all sixteen paediatric sub-specialities are operationalized in phased manner. Health and Medical Education Department recently took a long awaited decision of shifting of paediatric surgery from Super Specialty Hospital to this hospital and it has resumed its functioning. The Departments of Paediatric Nephrology, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Paediatric Radiology & Paediatric Microbiology have been assigned their Head of Departments and are in the process of scaling up their departments. The Department of General Paediatrics continues to be the largest department providing wider foundation to other specialties and is housing state of art NICU & PICU which have the highest number of critical care beds in J&K. The state of art infrastructure in these areas together with trained paramedical staff and specialist doctors have brought down the infant mortality rate considerably & infant mortality rate of this hospital is better than the national average. The department of General Paediatric meanwhile is also providing services in the sphere of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Paediatric Cardiology & Paediatric Neurology. This hospital being the stand alone tertiary care hospital for paediatrics also serves the regions of PirPanjal& Chenab valley. The Health & Medical Education Department of J&K has set up a roadmap for this hospital that eventually shall campus all Paediatric sub-Specialties, so that patients can avail all paediatric related services under one roof and shall curtail outside J&K referrals. Centre of excellence that shall integrate district hospitals SNCU’s with this hospital as a hub and spoke model for tele-consultation is also under process. Various national health programmes that are linked to child health are being implemented through NHM Schemes. Children are being provided free diagnostics & treatment under JSSK and AB-SEHAT Schemes.

A Separate Diagnostic Block for Radiology that shall house CT/MRI & Digital Radiology is approved and its construction is expected to start in this financial year only.
