HOD Message

The department of Orthopaedics,  Govt Medical College, Srinagar has completed 38 years at Govt Hospitals for Bone and Joint Surgery, Srinagar. The hospital for Bone and Joint Surgery , Srinagar conceived and constructed by great visionary Prof. (Dr. ) Farooq Ashaii in 1982 has served well and rendered excellent services to JK State in general and valley in particular. The hospital has created its own place in northern India  and is considered one of the best tertiary hospitals in Orthopaedics. The hospital has grown at a very fast pace both in manpower and services. The department is performing all sorts of surgeries ranging from Arthroplasty, arthroscopy, Spinal and other surgeries of trauma. The hospital is about to start Spinal Trauma Centre with the help of Central Government and is also been augmented by the another 120 bedded hospital  (funded by World Bank) being constructed adjacent to the present hospital. This will create necessary fillip and boost the services of the hospital. The department is also running (one of the oldest in India ) Artificial Limb Centre , since 1982 and is rehabilitating all patients by fitment of lower limb prostheses. The department is already known for his academic achievements and is presently running postgraduate course programme of 16 PG students per year and has already passed out about 100 PG students from the department. The faculty has also increased from 3 to 23. The department is having six functional units. We are trying to create various subspecialities in Orthopaedics and also to start fellowship programme in near future.
