About us

  • Lalla Ded Hospital an associated hospital of Govt. Medical College Sgr, is a lone tertiary care 650 bedded maternity-cum-neonatal Hospital Spread over approx 65 kanals of land dealing with critical Obst/Gynae patients catering heavy patient, load from all over the valley situated on the banks of river Jhelum in Wazir Bagh. Initially Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics was started in a ward in the Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital (SMHS) and with the increasing number of patients and dearth in the space it was provided the space at Wazir Bagh and started as famously known “Hundred Bed” Hospital.
  •         The reigns of the hospital were handed over to Dr Girija Dhar the gynecologist and Obstetrician who had recently returned with an FRCOG London. The hospital continued in the building that had wards, theater, Recovery, OPD .Adjacent to the hundred bed hospital was a proposal of a building which was being constructed for a Mandi and had the structure in columns of steel, it was called as ‘SHESHTER KULL’.The Head of the department and the Medical Superintendent of the time thought of the place as very apt for extending the hundred bed hospital and approached the government for the same. It was then decided that the structure would be dedicated to be the extension of the Gynae/Obst. Hospital and hence came into existence the current 500 bedded hospital. The IPD block was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of the Jammu & Kashmir Shri. Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on 5th December 1980. Since the name was not yet finalized the opinion of the law makers finalized that the building as a whole shall be called as LALLA DED HOSPITAL.
  • Since then the hospital has been catering to the needs of the female patients both obstetrics and gynecology. It was designed to be a tertiary care hospital with under graduate and post graduate training and teaching facility.             
  • The hospital has provided relief to the fact that it has given every patient an opportunity to enjoy and welcome the motherhood with dignity. The hospital takes pride in proclaiming the lowest maternal and neonatal mortality rate in spite of the colossal IPD and OPD patients. The hospital has a full-fledged faculty of obstetrics’ and gynecology as well as some faculty from the Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care and Department Of Neonatology.
  • The OPD is seen by six units headed by professors where in about 1000-1200 patients are evaluated per day and about 90 to 100 patients are admitted on daily basis. 70 cesarean sections/Major surgeries and more than 30 high risk normal deliveries are conducted in every 24 hours.
  • The hospital has High End Supportive departments like: Blood Bank inaugurated in 1997, Oxygen Concentrator Plant inaugurated in September 2000. Two numbers of waiting areas are available in order to provide area for self help for attendants of patients arriving from far off places.
  • The Hospital is endowed with 95 bedded Labour Room with a 08 bedded HDU and NICU which can accommodate 60 neonates. A Modular Operating theatre with the latest operating gadgets. The hospital has also incorporated a 04 bedded SICU.
  • A 20 bedded Isolation facility with fully equipped Operation Theatre, post operative ward and Neonatal resuscitation unit
  • JSSK and SEHAT Scheme implemented wherein Drugs/Diagnostics/Disposables/Diet and transport facility is made available to the patients with zero out of pocket expenses.
  • LAQSHAYA Scheme implemented.
  • The hospital has installed CCTV in almost all the sections.
